Birds of Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan is the ninth largest country in the world and is located in central Eurasia. Altitudes range from 132 m below sea level (Karagiye Depression) to 7010 m above sea level (Khan Tengri). Although most of the landscape is relatively flat and almost half of the area is desert, however several mountain ranges and many rivers, lakes and swamps ensure a wide variety of landscape types. Kazakhstan protects its nature in 13 national parks, all located in the east of the country. The avifauna is correspondingly rich. Among other species, various grouse live here. BirdLife International has registered more than 120 IBAs (Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas) for Kazakhstan. Tourism is poorly developed, partly because of the inadequate infrastructure.

All 513 species are illustrated. In addition, links to HD videos of 160 bird species (1h 50m 42s) and audios of 86 bird species (50m 54s) are included. The assessment of the global conservation status of bird species uses the criteria of the Red List (IUCN) 2012.
The scientific system follows Clements et al. 2017.
An index, name registers in all selected languages and a scientific name register, all completely linked.
