Birds of Kyrgyzstan

€ 9.49 *

Kyrgyzstan is a tectonically active, mountainous landlocked country in Central Asia; more than 80% of the country's area is occupied by the high mountain region of Tian Shan. Steppe prevails in the lower parts of the country. The highest altitude is reached at 7439 m at Jengish Chokusu. The numerous rivers are often dammed and used to generate energy. The climate in Kyrgyzstan is semi-arid continental with strong seasonal and daily temperature fluctuations. The central location means that Kyrgyzstan is regularly visited by many migratory birds. Due to the mountainous character of the landscape, the native bird life includes many species of birds of prey and falcons. Kyrgyzstan has established 13 national parks to protect nature. In addition, BirdLife International has designated 11 areas as IBAs (Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas). Kyrgyzstan is little developed for tourism and mainly young adventure tourists or older study tourists come from the west.
