South Korea is a very modern state in the southern part of the Korean peninsula. It has 22 national parks, most of them mountainous. The island Jejudo, also known as a popular honeymoon destination, contains a volcanic World Heritage Site and hosts an endemic subspecies of the Eurasian Nuthatch. Further, a subspecies of the White-bellied Woodpecker is endemic to the Korean peninsula. As Korea is located on the very important migration route along the Pacific Ocean, the avidiversity of this area is outstanding.
