Nepal is a landlocked country. The altitudes range from 70 m in the Indo-Gangetic plain to almost 9000 m in the Himalayas. The numerous protected areas, including national parks, world natural heritage, and Ramsar wetlands in Nepal offer the birds important habitats. In Chitwan National Park alone, more than 540 species have been recorded. In addition to many native bird species - including two endemics - many migratory bird species appear in Nepal.
