Birds of the United Arab Emirates

Some experts consider the United Arab Emirates an eastern birding hotspot of the Western Palearctic. Migration is particularly rewarding in April and May, but also in September to November. The most well-known reserve is probably the island Sir Bani Yas, which becomes a touristic attraction as it is not only a bird sanctuary, but also hosts a number of rare mammal species. There live a number of non-indigenous bird species, too. Many migratory birds can also be found in urban parks, e.g. in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. However, one of the best sites is Sila'a Peninsula at the western border to Saudi Arabia.
