Burkina Faso is located in the interior of West Africa on a mostly gently undulating plateau and even the country's highest mountain, Tena Kourou, only reaches a height of 749 m. The climate is dominated by pronounced rainy seasons (West African monsoon) and dry seasons (Harmattan) and ranges from tropical savanna climate in the south to a warm desert climate in the north. Four national parks and numerous protected forests (Forêt classées) have been set up to protect nature. Also to the north is the Mare d'Oursi, a Ramsar Conservation Area. BirdLife International has registered ten IBAs (Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas) for Burkina Faso. Burkina Faso is one of the poorest and least developed countries in the world. The road network consists mostly of laterite roads, but the asphalting of the east-west axis has been completed. For bird watchers, the Kaboré Tambi National Park, located south of the capital, is worth mentioning and is home to numerous attractive bird species.
