Birds of Eritrea

€ 14.49 *

The East African Rift Valley dominates the landforms in Eritrea, the country also lies on the Red Sea with a coastline of 1347 km and includes several islands, including the Dahlak Archipelago, in the Red Sea. In Emba Soira, the Eritrean highlands reach their highest elevation at 3018 m, in the Danakil depression lies the lowest point at -110 m. The different topographical configuration results in a great variety of climates throughout the country, ranging from temperate to tropical. This variety leads to a great biodiversity in bird species and it can be said that Eritrea is clearly underestimated by bird watchers. In the highlands, the climate is temperate all year round and visitors are safer than many other countries, only approaching the borders is prohibited. Due to its small size, Eritrea itself has no endemic bird species, but many species endemic to the common area of Ethiopia and Eritrea can be found.
