Birds of Ghana

€ 17.49 *

Ghana is located in West Africa on the Gulf of Guinea. With the construction of the Akosombo Dam, the largest by surface reservoir on earth, the Volta Reservoir, was created in the country. Ghana is a relatively flat country that only reaches a height of almost 900m in a few places. The climate is tropical with alternating dry seasons and rainy seasons (monsoon). Ghana includes 5 ecoregions: East Guinean Forest, Guinean Forest-Savannah Mosaic, West Sudanese Savannah, Central African Mangrove and Guinean Mangrove. The bird life in Ghana is correspondingly rich in species. BirdLife International currently distinguishes forty IBAs (Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas), areas of major international importance for bird life. In addition, Ghana shares an EBA (Endemic Bird Area) with its neighboring countries, the forests of Upper Guinea, which are home to numerous bird species with relatively small ranges. Ghana is now promoting eco-tourism and is in any case an extremely attractive destination for bird watchers.
