Birds of Liberia

€ 16.49 *

Liberia is located in West Africa on the Atlantic Ocean with a coastline 579 km long. The landscape rises from the flat coastal zone inland to a hilly plain several hundred meters above sea level and reaches its highest point in the north at Mount Wuteve at 1440 m. The Nimba Mountains in the northeast of the country are similarly high. This area is well protected and has been proposed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2017. The variety of habitats in these mountains had led to an impressive biodiversity. However, since mining is still permitted, the habitats have recently been significantly reduced. Since 2023, a transnational area has also been proposed as a World Heritage Site, Gola Forest National Park; it merges into the Gola Rainforest National Park in Sierra Leone. One can only hope that the protective measures will take effect before the forest is cut down.
