Birds of Niger

€ 12.99 *

Niger is a landlocked country in western Africa. Three quarters of the country are in the Sahara, the remaining quarter belongs to the Sahel zone. The eponymous river Niger flows through the southwest of the country. In this region lies the transnational national park 'W', the only national park in Niger; it is also part of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage. The climate is hot and dry, the landscapes are various forms of savannah and desert. The areas in the north are practically devoid of vegetation, the fauna is particularly rich in species in the savannahs of the south. BirdLife International has identified 17 IBAs (Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas) in Niger that are of supra-regional importance for bird life. Niger is one of the poorest countries in the world; recently the country seems to be stabilizing politically and developing democratic structures. The infrastructure has been significantly expanded in recent years.
