The Republic of Seychelles consists of 115 islands and is located 1500 km east of mainland Africa in the Indian Ocean. Due to the mild climate Seychelles are an attractive tourist destination. The environmental legislation has been successfull in protecting Fauna and Flora of the archipelago. And Seychelles have a considerable number of endemic bird species and subspecies, therefore both the Granitic Seychelles and the Island Aldabra have been recognized as Primary Endemic Bird Areas (EBA-P) by BirdLife International. Finding all endemic birds requires some effort, as it necessary to visit close to 10 different islands, which are partly uninhabited and require to obtain special visit permissions. But even restricting a visit to Mahé and Praslin can result in very rewarding experiences.
