Birds of Somalia

€ 18.49 *

Somalia is located on the Horn of Africa in the arid east of the continent and has the longest coastline in Africa at more than 3333 km on the Indian Ocean. The northern part of the country is mountainous, reaching an altitude of 2460 m at Mount Shimbiris. The southern part is flat land. Large parts of Somalia are desert, the rest are semi-arid. The climate is hot all year round with irregular rainfall. Somalia is in an area of great biodiversity, but due to the lack of important state structures, nature is exposed to extensive damage. Since the collapse of the central government, the establishment of several national parks has had no protective effect. The special location of Somalia has led to the development of numerous endemic bird species. BirdLife International has determined that Somalia shares six EBAs (Endemic Bird Areas) with its neighboring countries. Unfortunately, Somalia is one of the poorest and most dangerous countries on earth.
