Birds of Antigua and Barbuda

€ 4.99 *

The two small, low-lying islands Antigua and Barbuda belong to the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean. They have been shaped more by limestone formations than by volcanic activity and are unwooded except for small remains of dry forest. The avifauna is dominated by seabirds, but there are also some typical Caribbean species living here. Most interesting is probably the largest colony of the Magnificent Frigatebird in the Western Hemisphere, it is located on the smaller island of Barbuda. It suffers from the hurricanes again and again, but its size can reach 100,000. The best time to travel is April and May, when the seabirds breed and August to December, when the Frigatebird colony is usually occupied.
