Birds of Barbados

€ 4.99 *

Barbados is located about 160 km away from the Lesser Antilles and is formed by a coral reef and not by volcanic eruptions. There are no forested mountains here and strictly speaking, Barbados is not a typical Caribbean island. Because of its isolated location, there is an endemic bird species in Barbados, the inconspicuous Barbados Bullfinch, as well as some endemic subspecies. Therefore, Barbados is also recognized as part of a Primary Endemic Bird Area (EBA-P) by BirdLife International. Apart from that, seven areas are registered as IBA (Important Bird and Biodiversity Area) for Barbados, i.e. as areas of global importance for the conservation of bird life. Barbados is also known for its regularity, where seabirds and guests from distant regions, even on the other side of the Atlantic, are encountered.
