El Salvador is the smallest of the Central American countries and the most densely populated country, too. In spite of its spectacular natural beauty it has been largely neglected by birdwatchers - so there is a lot to discover. One of the best places is Montecristo National park on the border with Honduras. El Imposible is the largest National Park in El Salvador and is relatively untouched because of its inaccessibility. Its bird list stands now at around 300 species.
