Like all other Central American countries, Guatemala has suffered from deforestation and general habitat destruction. Nevertheless Guatemala has more than 30 protectetd areas including National Parks and Biological Reserves. The largest reserve in Guatemala is the Reserva de la Biosfera Maya. In total Guatemala harbours more than 700 bird species.
