Kulumnien has access to two oceans and is divided into several large natural areas. In the western half of the country are the three great mountain ranges of the Andes, which reach a height of 5775 m above sea level. The two coastal lowlands are complemented by a few offshore islands. The eastern half of the country is covered by densely forested flat land. A distinction is made between Orinocia and Amazonia essentially according to the flow direction of the rivers. The climate is tropical and there are at least four different climatic conditions simply because of the different altitudes. This variety of conditions has led to a great diversity of species, so that Colombia is counted among the 17 megadiverse countries on earth. The diversity of bird species, more than 80 of which are endemic, makes Colombia a dream destination for bird watchers, especially as Colombia goes to great lengths to protect its nature.
