Moldova, officially the Republic of Moldova, is a landlocked country between Ukraine and Romania. The landscape is undulating, the altitude is between 30 and 429 m above sea level. The majority is used for agriculture. and less than 2% of the area is protected. The republic has no national park and no biosphere reserve. However, it is the only country in Europe whose development takes place within the ecological limits. There are also around ten areas in Moldova that BirdLife International has classified as IBA (Important Bird and Biodiversity Area). Moldova is also on the important migration route that leads past the Black Sea over the Bosporus.
