€ 1.49 *

The AAT is the largest of the Antarctic Territories.

Cover image Antarctic Petrel, Drawing: J.G.Keulemans.

The Australian Antarctic Territory (AAT) covers the largest area of the five Antarctic territories. However, it is not a contiguous area, but is divided by the French Adélie Land into two parts, which extend from 45 to 136 degrees East and from 142 to 160 degrees East longitude. The mainland of Antarctica is one of the most hostile areas on earth. The surrounding pack ice zone, on the other hand, is one of the most lush ecosystems in the world due to its oxygen-rich water. The most important Australian research station in Antarctica is Davis Station, for which the first paved runway on the continent is being built. This bird guide shows all the bird life in colour (Date 06.12.2024).
The scientific system follows Clements et al. 2017.
