Birds of the Faroe Islands

€ 4.99 *

The Faroe Islands are a group of islands in the northern Atlantic that are politically part of Denmark. It is of volcanic origin, the highest mountain is 882 m high. The climate is maritime, humid and so changeable that the Faroe Islands have been nicknamed the 'Islands of Maybe'. The bird life is dominated by the sea birds. Here is probably the world's largest colony of the European Storm Petrel. The Faroe Islands have no endemic bird species, but endemic subspecies of Black Guillemot (faeroeensis), Common Eider (faeroeensis), Common Starling (faroensis) and Eurasian Wren (borealis). BirdLife International has recognized 19 IBAs (Important Bird Areas) in the Faroe Islands, i.e. areas of global importance for bird life.

The Faroe Islands are located in the Atlantic Ocean. Legally the Faroe Islands belong to Denmark.
