The British Virgin Islands belong geologically to the eastern end of the Greater Antilles, but are geographically assigned to the Lesser Antilles. The volcanic origin of most of the islands has given rise to a mountainous landscape, with Mount Sage as the highest point (523 m asl). The climate is tropical humid. More than 20 regions are designated as national parks, but not all are also interesting for bird watchers. The only coral island in the group (Anegada="flooded") is home to an internationally important wetland with many interesting bird species.
The British Virgin Islands are located in the Atlantic Ocean. Legally the British Virgin Islands belong to United Kingdom.
