Birds of Curaçao

€ 5.99 *

Curacao is an island in the Caribbean Sea that belongs geologically to South America. The island is located outside the hurricane zone and has a tropical-maritime climate. According to BirdLIfe International, two national parks, the Christoffelpark and the Shete Boka National Park together form an IBA (Important Bird Area). Although there are no endemic bird species, there are three endemic subspecies, a Barn Owl, a Brown-throated Parakeet and a Northern Scrub-Flycatcher. Together with the other Netherlands Antilles (Aruba and Bonaire), Curaçao forms an EBA-S (Secondary Endemic Bird Area), because at least some bird species with limited distribution occur here.

Curaçao is located in the Atlantic Ocean. Legally Curaçao belongs to Netherlands. Because of the number of bird species with restricted range occurring in this area, BirdLife International assigned it a Secondary Endemic Bird Area (EBA-S).
