Birds of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands

€ 1.99 *

The volcanic archipelagos of South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands are mountainous, rugged and largely covered by ice. Some of the volcanoes are active and the highest peak, Mount Paget, reaches 2934 m above sea level. The islands are important breeding grounds for various seabirds, particularly penguins. Human residents only stay there temporarily and in small numbers. However, there has been a certain amount of tourism going there by sea recently.

The South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands are located in the Atlantic Ocean. Legally the South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands belong to United Kingdom.
