The Loyalty Islands are an island chain that stretches for almost 100 km parallel to the island of New Caledonia in the Pacific. Six of the islands - Lifou, Maré, Tiga, Ouvéa, Mouli and Faiava - are inhabited. The highest elevation is 138 m above sea level. The archipelago lies in the climate of the tropical rainforest. The islands' remote location has led to the development of several endemic bird species and subspecies.
The Loyalty Islands are located in the Pacific Ocean. Legally the Loyalty Islands belong to France.
