Birds of the Wallis and Futuna Islands

€ 2.49 *

The French overseas territory of Wallis and Futuna includes the three main islands of Uvea, Futuna and Alofi. They are of volcanic origin and are located between Fiji and Samoa in the Pacific Ocean. The landscape is mountainous, the climate is tropical and the islands are prone to earthquakes, tsunamis and hurricanes. The bird life is similar to that of the neighboring islands, there are no endemic bird species, but there are endemic subspecies. Tourism is very poorly developed, bartering prevails in the economy and the area is dependent on French support.

The Wallis and Futuna Islands are located in the Pacific Ocean. Legally the Wallis and Futuna Islands belong to France. Because of the number of bird species with restricted range occurring in this area, BirdLife International assigned it a Secondary Endemic Bird Area (EBA-S).
