Birds of the Cozumel Island

€ 5.49 *

Cozumel is a flat, densely forested island about 12 miles east of the Yucatan Peninsula. It is the largest Mexican island in the Caribbean. There is a tropical savannah climate with a short dry season and a longer rainy season. Cozumel is not free from hurricanes. The island is home to several endemic bird species and subspecies, hence it has been recognized as an EBA (Endemic Bird Area) by BirdLife International. It is also extremely popular as a tourist destination - especially for cruises.

Cozumel Island is located in the Atlantic Ocean. Legally Cozumel Island belongs to Mexico. Because of the number of bird species with restricted range occurring in this area, BirdLife International assigned it a Primary Endemic Bird Area (EBA-P).
