Birds of Sicily

€ 7.49 *

Sicily is not only the largest but also the most volcanically active island in the Mediterranean; Etna volcano is also the highest mountain in Sicily at 3357 m. There are also a number of smaller islands close to Sicily that count, including another active volcano, Stromboli. The climate is Mediterranean. Sicily has lost most of its forest to human activity over the last two thousand years. However, there are some areas on Sicily and the neighboring islands that are recognized by BirdLife International as an IBA (Important Bird and Biodiversity Area). Italy offers birds an important migratory route, which is why bird trapping in Italy unfortunately has a long tradition. In any case, many songbirds can also be regularly observed during migration in Sicily.

Sicily is located in the Mediterranean Sea. Legally Sicily belongs to Italy.
