Birds of Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is one of the most popular islands for bird watching in the tropical Caribbean. The island shares an area with the Virgin Islands which BirdLife International classifies as EBA-P (Primary Endemic Bird Area) because there are many birds with small distribution areas. Apart from that, BirdLife International has marked 20 areas as IBA (Important Bird and Biodiversity Area), i.e. as areas of global importance for the conservation of bird life. With some luck you can find all interesting bird species on the island within a few days.

Puerto Rico is located in the Atlantic Ocean. Legally Puerto Rico belongs to USA. Because of the number of bird species with restricted range occurring in this area, BirdLife International assigned it a Primary Endemic Bird Area (EBA-P).
