Birds of the Scattered Islands in the Indian Ocean

€ 3.49 *

The Scattered Islands in the Indian Ocean include the atolls of Bassas da India, Europa and Îles Glorieuses, and the islands of Juan de Nova and Tromelin. They are located in the Mozambique Strait and in the western Indian Ocean respectively, and have a tropical climate. None of the islands reaches an altitude of more than 15 m above sea level. Although there are few breeding birds on the islands, they contribute to the conservation of species, such as the Great Frigatebird, the Sooty Tern and two species of Boobies, important colonies. And the endemic subspecies ssp. europae of the White-tailed Tropicbird breeds on Europa Island. The islands are uninhabited except for a few scientists and military personnel, and only Tromelin has an airport.

The Scattered Islands in the Indian Ocean are located in the Indian Ocean. Legally the Scattered Islands in the Indian Ocean belong to France.
