The Andman Islands are an archipelago in the Indian Ocean southwest of Myanmar. It consists of several hundred islands, the highest point of which reaches 732 m above sea level at Saddle Peak. The somewhat remote volcanic islands of Narkondam and Barren Island can also be attributed to it. The climate is tropical warm with abundant rainfall during the monsoon seasons. The vegetation consists predominantly of rainforest and mangrove. Two national parks have been established in North Andaman. Several endemic bird species as well as other animal and plant species occur in the Andaman Islands. Some of the islands are accessible to tourists and are certainly popular as a travel destination.
The Andaman Islands are located in the Indian Ocean. Legally the Andaman Islands belong to India. Because of the number of bird species with restricted range occurring in this area, BirdLife International assigned it a Primary Endemic Bird Area (EBA-P).
