Tristan da Cunha is an approximately 2000 m high volcanic archipelago in the southern Atlantic. The climate is oceanic with lots of rain and little sunshine with persistent westerly winds. The bird life is dominated by seabirds. Several endemic bird species and subspecies have evolved on the islands of the archipelago. The archipelago also includes the uninhabited islands of Inaccessible and Nightingale. Inaccessible Island has been declared a World Heritage Site along with Gough Island, 400 km further southeast. Unfortunately, Tristan da Cunha is difficult to reach; the main island of the same name is considered the most remote inhabited island in the world.
Tristan da Cunha is located in the Atlantic Ocean. Legally Tristan da Cunha belongs to United Kingdom. Because of the number of bird species with restricted range occurring in this area, BirdLife International assigned it a Primary Endemic Bird Area (EBA-P).
