Just like Mauritius and Rodrigues, Reunion is one of the Mascarene Islands and lies around 700 km east of Madagascar. As overseas department of France Réunion belongs to the euro zone. The Réunion National Park was established in 2007 to protect endemic species of animals and plants; It covers about 40% of the island and belongs since 2010 to the World Natural Heritage. As expected, BirdLife International has recognized the island as a Primary Endemic Bird Area (EBA-P). In fact, in addition to the endemic bird species, in Reunion there are other species with very small distribution areas.
Reunion is located in the Indian Ocean. Legally Reunion belongs to France. Because of the number of bird species with restricted range occurring in this area, BirdLife International assigned it a Primary Endemic Bird Area (EBA-P).
