Thasos is the northernmost inhabited island in the Aegean and slightly larger than the state of Malta. It is only 7 km from the mainland and therefore shares many species of birds with Greece. Thasos has been designated an Important Bird Area (IBA) by BirdLife International.
Thasos is located in the Mediterranean Sea. Legally Thasos belongs to Greece.
